Securing A Venue For Degree Show

After a great deal of frustration hearing that a physical show would not be possible on University grounds, we poured all our efforts into locating a venue within Carlisle which could be host to a physical showcase of our work. This proved more difficult than we expected and we were in contact with a number of places but nothing came from them.

We were aiming for an outdoor space where work could be viewed covid-securely and felt that the newly renovated Cathedral Quarter would be the ideal location. A number of people had tried to get in contact with the events team on separate occasions and after a few weeks of no luck I decided to take matters to the top.

I rang the Dean of Carlisle, The Very Reverend Mark Boyling and, picking up on the second ring, we discussed the possibilities of showcasing work and he was very positive about the reality of this. He supported my email to Jesse the Events Manager which resulted in a meeting between Alex, myself and Jesse. The space they were offering us turned out to be the Fratry Building - a beautiful old monks dining hall which now holds an extensive library of ancient books, along with being home to a stunning events space with large screen, surround sound and dimming lights.

We were in AWE!!

After a few weeks of back and forth we finally secured the venue a week before the installation of the show!
